My first experience at Under Canvas was at the Moab property, and it was awesome, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to check out the Mt. Rushmore camp. I love the outdoors and being surrounded by beautiful nature, but I won't lie I don't love to sleep on the ground…anyone else out there like me? Under Canvas is the answer. Only a five and a half-hour drive from Denver, Under Canvas - Mt. Rushmore is the perfect road trip destination, especially for Coloradans. I've never visited South Dakota, so I wasn't sure what to expect, but all I have to say is WOW. The drive was beautiful, and fields of yellow flowers, green trees, and rolling hills decorated the landscape.
The camp is nestled in the Black Hills, and the property is stunning. The "lobby" is a huge canvas tent with its own restaurant, (we’ll chat food in a bit) board games, cozy couches, and views of Mt. Rushmore. No, I am not joking, you can actually see the faces and the epic sunset from the patio. After touring the property and snapping some pics of the Stargazing Tent (The Stargazer has its own viewing window above the king bed to stargaze at night,) we decided to check out our tent for the night. The tent is one of the camps "Deluxe Tents" and comes equipped with a king-size bed, (so cozy) a wood-burning fireplace, a bathroom with a full shower and toilet, and incredible views of the lush landscape. After enjoying the room, I was starved, so we headed up to the lobby tent to check out the dinner situation. Live music, families playing games, and the smell of delicious food put me in the best mood.
Okay - let's talk food! Food is obviously important to me, and I love to eat well when I'm on vacation. The menu was impressive, and the drink menu was packed with tasty wine selections and local beers. We dined on bruschetta, an under canvas burger with fries, and a caesar salad with some seriously amazing croutons (under canvas tell me your secrets!!) I was thrilled with the food and honestly was not expecting such a fabulous meal. It makes such a difference having an on-site spot to dine. The eating didn't stop there, and I was craving a good ol' fashion s' more after dinner. The camp has three different fire pits (including a private one for groups/VIP's) that they stock with all of the s' more fixings. PRO TIP: Use a peanut butter cup instead of Hershey's chocolate. MIND BLOWN.
After a cozy nights sleep, I was ready to sip on some coffee and enjoy the camp before heading out. Though the stay was short, you could easily spend days at camp participating in activities like beautiful hikes, helicopter tours, gold panning, lake swimming and more. Again my taste buds were pleased as I munched on the yummiest bagel breakfast sandwich. I played a quick round of corn hole and took in the beauty of camp before heading out.
I would HIGHLY recommend Under Canvas - Mt. Rushmore for friends, families, couples and furry friends (camp is dog-friendly!) It was such an easy and beautiful drive from Denver, and I cannot wait to come back soon. For more information on Under Canvas, click here, and make sure to follow them on Instagram.
